"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

The whaling days

Once upon a time about two weeks ago, I used to feel kinship to certain public figures. Mainly human. Like, “Today I feel as dumb as Larry the Cable guy”. Which on a second thought is not possible as he is so uniquely deranged that no one could ever imitate that. Or one would hope so… Now on the other hand I feel kinship to different species. Mammals in general and whales in particular. Blue whales. Great big mountains of “carne” floating away, sieving through the ocean of water. To catch the li… Continue

Spices

Spicy times Today I felt like saffron. You know, the one that costs a lot of money and is used only on special occasions but the rest of the time is stowed away from light and sight as God forbid, it should go bad… I wonder how lonely the saffron could feel? I mean the real one… Some people it fits. All the time. They do get a little dusty though. I don’t do saffron all the time. Actually haven’t done it for a really long time now. Am healing as a spice :) Most of the time I am actually more li… Continue

Eightfold path

Let's start unfolding then... Since our view of the world forms our thoughts and our actions, right view yields right thoughts and right actions. Cannot argue that one no matter which way I look at it. And why should I? But now, who is there to say what is the right way to look at the world? The general idea of Buddhism seems to be that the right view is the path and path leads to noble truths and one of them is not so noble to me so we are up against the wall here. What I will conclude here is… Continue

Love river

Thinking on love river. Most people are content with knowing that it’s there somewhere behind those trees, not quite visible but felt enough to give a little hope. Smaller group is scattered along the shore. Occasionally dipping their toes in and getting exhilarated with the sense of movement but getting a bit scared as well. You never know what’s around the bend. And then there are few of us, walking along the shore but IN the water. The current pulls occasionally and as shore folk don’t unders… Continue
